"You have a very special mission on this earth. A mission that will succeed beyond your wildest dreams. But only if you have the faith and courage to find that entrepreneurial calling." -Jeff Sandefer
What I have learned:
I studied the BYU-I devotional titled "A Hero's Journey" by Jeff Sandefer this week. I love it so much. I will look for the transcript to study it over and over again.
What I took away from it is that each one of us is capable of great things, in fact, we have a calling. Each one of us was put on earth to solve a problem. We need to keep searching for our calling and never give up on it. Our calling must serve others.
Sandefer says there are only three questions that matter at the end of life:
1. Have I contributed something meaningful?
We each have a calling! Find it!
2. Am I a good person?
Set ethical guardrails. He suggested writing your future self letters to open and read at times of great temptation. These letters would remind one of their why and the ethical guardrails they have set.
3. Who did I love and who loves me?
Choose your fellow travelers well. Surround yourself with people of character. We become who we surround ourselves with.
What I have yet to learn:
To help discover one's calling, Sandefer suggested an experiment: ask 5 people who you know well and who know you well. Ask them what you do better than anyone else in the world. Press the for specifics, if needed.
I am going to do this and to learn, at the very least, what those that know me best believe my calling could be. I think I'll ask my parents, my two sisters, my best friend, and my husband. I already have an idea of what they may say, but it still will be revealing to hear what they actually think my greatest strength is. I'll report back when I have results from this experiment.
