"The acquiring of wealth and material possessions would become Satan's most fertile ground, tempting mankind with the cunning strategy that this world is our destiny and that anything and everything in this world is available for money."
-Lynn G. Robbins
Theodore Roosevelt said that "comparison is the thief of joy." I learned this week that it is also the birth of pride and pride will leads to all sorts of sin.
Lessons Learned:
I learned this week that I want to run a business with impeccable integrity. I want to have what Elder Lynn G. Robbins would call an "A" business where my love of God and fellowmen is my primary motivation and income is my secondary motivation. I realize that I will make mistakes and won't be able to accomplish this goal perfectly, but I can course-correct after a mistake.
Elder Robbins also said " The competition that Satan was so anxiously awaiting could not take place until Adam and Eve began to multiply and replenish the earth. When it finally did happen, it was in the work place and in the acquiring of material possessions where it occurred. It was here that he claimed Cain as his first victim as Cain fell prey to the Master Mahan principle 'that I may murder and get gain" (Moses 5:31)" ("Making a Living and a Life," Lynn G. Robbins, BYU Idaho Devotionals).
Lessons Not Yet Learned:
Jim Ritchise from Launching Leaders shared J Paul Getty's Success Formula:
1. Get up early
2. Work Hard
3. Find (your) oil
David B. Haight also gave a three-step formula for success:
1. Get your education
2. Make your mark
3. Prepare to serve/give back
Jim Ritchie then combined them into a six-step formula for success:
1. Get up early
2. Work hard
3. Get your education
4. Find (your) oil
5. Make your mark
6. Prepare to serve/give back
My questions this week are:
1) How do I find my oil?
2) Will I know it when I find it?
3) What will getting up early accomplish for me?
I will be pondering these this week.
